ABOUT US

Instructor Thomas Meehan works well with all ages!

My name is Thomas Meehan, owner and head instructor of 2920 Unified Tae Kwon Do. I have been studying Tae Kwon Do since I was in the 7th grade and have been instructing for the last 4 years with my teacher Grand Master Ki Bu Park, a 9th degree black belt from South Korea. At Unified Tae Kwon Do we offer students a safe, family friendly environment to learn this fantastic martial art, as well as the tenants of Tae Kwon Do: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and self improvement.
Tae Kwon Do(“TKD”) is action philosophy. It is a traditional Korean martial art which translatedliterally means “the way of the hand and the foot (self-defense).” It is much more than the image of martial arts physical aspect. It is designed as a nonviolent art and system of complete body exercise as well as being a way of life. It includes physical techniques, mental disciplines, and a deep philosophy. By practicing The Kwon Do one can benefit in these ways:
1. Physically – One can develop good coordination, gain strength, increase flexibility, and improve
cardiovascular conditioning. From all these physical practices one can have a strong body.
2. Mentally – One can build self-confidence, gain better judgment, and improve self-control. From all
these mental disciplines, one can have a sound mind.
3. Philosophically, – While developing a strong body and a sound mind, it is also appropriate to learn the valuable philosophical tools and lessons offered by the Tae Kwon Do philosophy.
Tae Kwon Do’s “philosophy emphasizes good health, happiness, generosity, a sense of value, freedom, justice and peace.” All of these inspire both independence and coexistence. Tae Kwon Do is an art for humanity. It is also guide for the formation of outstanding character. The philosophy, the tenets of Tae Kwon Do are Courtesy, Integrity,   Perseverance, Self-control, and Indomitable Spirit embodies the communion of body, mind, and spirit.

Who needs Tae Kwon Do?
The human body has the same basic needs no matter what age. A body that when not in use would deteriorate.
Scientific studies have shown that Tae Kwon Do increases the efficiency of the lungs and heart as it tones and strengthens blood vessels and muscles. The man who exercises has twice the chance of avoiding a heart attack as the sedentary man.
My Philosophy is total health, wellness and conditioning-.. via Tae Kwon Do.
It is a great way to stay physically and mentally fit. I am sure that you would agree with me that too many of our youngsters are not getting the physical exercise they need. I have also been told that many schools are finding it difficult to work physical fitness into the curriculum. By no means is this a total solution, but it could be a way to make an impact on a student and his/her entire family as Tae Kwon Do is a sport and activity that all people can enjoy all the way into adulthood on an individual basis or as a family.
Thank you,
Instructor Thomas Meehan.
